A-Level Physics is where the mathematics of A-Level Maths meets physical reasoning, and most students who struggle are stuck on one of the two rather than on both. Tutors here also cover the ESAT, the admissions test that replaces Oxford’s PAT from 2027 entry.
We also build cookie, the revision app, and every student and every tutor here gets it at no extra cost. This is what it has for A-Level Physics to use between lessons.
A-Level Physics assumes fluency with algebraic rearrangement, logarithms, exponentials and calculus, and it assumes it before A-Level Maths has necessarily taught them. Students not taking Maths alongside are especially exposed.
That is diagnosable in a single lesson, and fixing it usually improves Physics marks faster than more physics does.
Extended-response and explanation questions reward a chain of physical reasoning stated in the right order, with the right terms. Students who can do every calculation still lose these, because they are being marked on saying why rather than on getting a number.
Practical and data-analysis questions are the other reliable block: uncertainties, significant figures, and reading a graph for what it implies rather than for its gradient.
The ESAT is now the admissions test for Physics and Engineering at Oxford and for several Cambridge courses, replacing the PAT, NSAA and ENGAA. It rewards speed and confidence with material an A-Level student already has, under far more time pressure than a school paper.
Tutors who list the ESAT have usually sat it or its predecessors themselves, and their profiles say which.
Not formally, but it helps a great deal, and students without it more often need a tutor for the mathematics rather than the physics. It is worth naming at the free introduction.
The Physics Aptitude Test was last sat in October 2025, and from 2027 entry Oxford uses the ESAT, which replaced the NSAA and ENGAA at Cambridge from 2025 entry. Preparation for the ESAT is the right thing to book.
What is examined is method, uncertainty, error and interpretation, which work well on a shared whiteboard with real data. The manipulation itself is done at school.
AQA, Edexcel, OCR A and OCR B (Advancing Physics), WJEC/Eduqas and CCEA, plus the international specifications.
From £30 an hour, set by each tutor and shown on their profile. The first 15 minutes is free.
Many do; university interview preparation is listed as its own subject, including Oxford and Cambridge specifically.
We are selective about who teaches here: we look for tutors at top universities, everybody is interviewed by us, and nobody is listed without a criminal record check on file. Lessons run in the browser with live video and a shared whiteboard.Rates start at £30 an hour, the first 15 minutes with any tutor is free, and every student gets cookie's study software at no extra cost.
