Tutors who teach in a language you want lessons in come first. That is the languages you chose under “Languages I’d like lessons in” in your account, or, if you have not chosen any, the language of the site you are reading. Tutors who teach in other languages follow, and nobody is hidden unless you filter by lesson language. The next two steps then order the tutors inside each of those two groups.
Tutors with the highest average rating from students come first. A tutor with no reviews yet sorts after every tutor who has them. Most tutors offer a free 15-minute intro, and their profile says so, which is how somebody new gets a first lesson.
Where ratings are equal, the tutor who joined first comes first. It is arbitrary, and it is at least arbitrary in a way nobody can influence.
Nothing here can be bought. There is no promoted placement and no paid boost, and if that ever changes this page changes with it.
A tutor’s hourly rate does not affect their position, in either direction.
Whether a tutor offers the free introduction does not affect their position, in either direction.
Filters and search terms narrow the list; they never re-order what is left.
A tutor who has paused new students is not listed at all while they are paused, and comes back in the same place when they unpause.
Suggested for you is a separate box above the filters. It chooses from the same tutors and does not change the order of this list.
