On Cookie Tutoring each tutor sets their own hourly rate, and no rate can be lower than £30 an hour. You see the rate on the tutor’s profile before you contact them, the first 15 minutes with any tutor are free with no card needed, and lessons are paid for in advance and held by us until they have happened. There is no membership fee and no minimum number of lessons.
A tutor decides what to charge, so the rate can reflect the subject and level, how much tutoring they have done and how much time they have free. We set a floor of £30 an hour and no ceiling. We do not publish a typical price, because it would describe whoever is listed today rather than the tutor you end up choosing.
The rate on the profile is the price you pay. The price of a lesson is that hourly rate for the length you agree, so a shorter lesson costs less.
Nothing is paid until you and the tutor have agreed a time in your messages. Then you pay for that lesson, or for a block of lessons, up front, and we hold the money until after the lesson, when it goes to the tutor. We take 20% of what you pay and the tutor keeps the rest.
Everything goes through the platform. A tutor who asks to be paid directly is breaking the rules, and paying that way would lose you the refund policy and the record that the lesson happened.
Every tutor offers a free 15-minute introduction, and a tutor’s first suggestion to a new student has to be that introduction rather than a paid lesson. No card is needed and nothing follows from it automatically, so it is the time to ask how they would approach your child’s subject, and for your child to decide whether they like them.
Cancel more than 24 hours before a lesson and you get a full refund. Inside 24 hours the tutor is paid, because they kept the time free and can no longer fill it. If the tutor cancels, at any notice, you get a full refund, and cancelling a block refunds the lessons that have not happened yet.
You also have a legal right to cancel within 14 days of booking, before the lesson takes place, and the terms explain how that sits alongside the policy above.
Each tutor sets their own rate, from £30 an hour, and it is shown on their profile before you get in touch. The first 15 minutes with any tutor are free, which is enough to find out whether they suit your child before you pay anything.
No. There is no membership, no subscription and no minimum commitment. You pay only for lessons you have booked, and you can change tutor at any time without saying why.
If your tutor does not join the lesson within 15 minutes of the start, you get a full refund and the tutor is paid nothing. Turning up is measured by who actually joins the lesson room.
No. You pay through the platform and we hold the money until the lesson has happened, which is what makes refunds and the record of the lesson possible. A tutor who asks to be paid another way is worth reporting.
No. Every student taught here gets cookie, our study app, at no extra cost. It writes exam-style questions from their own notes or from an exam board’s published papers and marks what they write with a worked solution, and it has flashcards, past papers, notes and a revision plan as well. Their marked answers, flashcard ratings and past papers add up to a record of what they know, topic by topic, which brings each topic back just before they would forget it, and which their tutor can see once your child shares it.
Every tutor offers a free 15-minute introduction with no card needed, so you and your child can meet one before paying for anything.
