Cookie Tutoring is a selective online tutoring service for students in the UK and abroad, covering GCSE, A-Level, university entrance exams and admissions interviews. Lessons run in a browser with live video and a shared whiteboard, so there is nothing to install and no travel either way. We look for tutors at top universities, we interview every applicant ourselves, and nobody is listed without an Enhanced DBS check on file.
We also build cookie, the revision app, and every student and every tutor here gets it at no extra cost. This is what it has to use between lessons.
Lessons happen in a purpose-built room rather than a general video-call app. Both people see the same whiteboard, either can draw on it, and it renders proper mathematical notation, so a tutor can write an integral rather than describing one. Screen sharing is there for working through a past paper the student already has.
Nothing needs installing. The room opens from a link in the browser you already use, on a laptop, a tablet or a phone.
We look for tutors at top universities: Oxford, Cambridge and the Russell Group in the UK, and their equivalents elsewhere. It is what we look for rather than a rule applied blindly, so a reviewer can say yes to somebody outstanding from a university not on our list, and can say no to somebody who is at one of them. Anyone can apply.
Then six things have to be true. Applicants tell us what they studied, where, and what grades they got; we verify a university email address by sending a code to it; everyone is interviewed by us before a decision; everyone completes an identity check; and an Enhanced DBS check has to be on file before a profile is listed at all, which means before the profile exists publicly rather than merely before the first lesson.
That is a standard we set ourselves. It is not a claim of endorsement by any university, and we say so on every page that mentions where a tutor studied.
Tutors set their own hourly rate, with a floor of £30 an hour. We take 20% and the tutor keeps the rest. Lessons are paid for up front, we hold the money, and if a lesson is cancelled inside 24 hours the tutor is still paid, which is what makes the policy mean anything.
A 15-minute introduction is free and involves no card at all. Every tutor and every student they teach also gets full access to cookie, our study app: AI-generated exam questions with examiner-style marking, flashcards, past papers, notes and a revision plan, with spaced repetition bringing each topic back, so practice between lessons uses the same material the tutor sees.
Yes. Lessons are online, so location only matters for timezones. A tutor publishes the hours they are actually free and you book against them in your own local time. UK qualifications are the bulk of what we cover, and we also cover the IB, AP, SAT and several national school-leaving exams.
Every tutor is interviewed by us and has a criminal record check on file before their profile is listed, which means an Enhanced DBS in the UK and their own country’s equivalent elsewhere. Lessons and messages stay on the platform so there is a record if a concern is ever raised, and anyone can report a profile, a message or a review from the page it is on.
Yes. Every tutor offers a free 15-minute introduction. No card is needed to book one and there is no obligation afterwards.
Cancel more than 24 hours before it starts and you are refunded in full. Inside 24 hours the tutor is paid, because they have kept the time free and can no longer fill it.
Yes, and they are treated as first-class subjects rather than an afterthought. UCAT, LNAT, TMUA, ESAT, STEP, TARA and 11+ each have their own tutors, as do Oxford and Cambridge interviews, medicine MMIs and US college admissions.
No. The lesson room runs in the browser. You need a reasonably recent browser, a microphone and, ideally, a camera.
