How lessons are priced
Each tutor sets their own hourly rate, and no rate is lower than £30 an hour. Most tutors offer a free 15-minute intro, and their profile says so. Lessons are paid for in advance and held until they have happened, and there is no membership fee.
The rate
- Each tutor sets their own hourly rate, from £30 an hour, shown on their profile before you get in touch
- A lesson costs that rate for the length you agree, so a shorter lesson costs less
- We take 20% of what you pay and the tutor keeps the rest
- No membership, no subscription and no minimum number of lessons
Find a tutor and set the most you want to pay an hour to see only the tutors within it.
Paying and booking
- Nothing is paid until you and the tutor agree a time in your messages
- Book one lesson, or a block of 4, 6, or 12 lessons, weekly or fortnightly, paid up front
- The money is held until 24 hours after each lesson, then goes to the tutor
- Every payment goes through the platform; a tutor asking to be paid another way is breaking the rules
Cancelling and refunds
- More than 24 hours before a lesson: a full refund
- Inside 24 hours: the tutor is paid, because they kept the time free
- The tutor cancels, at any notice, or does not join: a full refund
- Cancelling a block refunds the lessons that have not happened yet
Common questions
- How much does a lesson cost?
- Each tutor sets their own hourly rate, and no rate is lower than £30 an hour. Most tutors offer a free 15-minute intro, and their profile says so. Lessons are paid for in advance and held until they have happened, and there is no membership fee.
- Is the first lesson free?
- Most tutors offer a free 15-minute intro, and their profile says so. It needs no card, and nothing follows from it unless you book.
- When do I pay?
- Only once you and the tutor have agreed a time in your messages. Then the lesson, or a block of lessons, is paid for up front, and the money is held until 24 hours after the lesson before it goes to the tutor.
- What if I need to cancel?
- Cancel more than 24 hours before a lesson for a full refund. If the tutor cancels, or does not join within 15 minutes of the start, you get a full refund. You can also cancel within 14 days of booking, before the lesson, as the terms explain.
- Can a parent pay for a child’s lessons?
- Yes. Under 16, a parent, guardian or sponsor books and pays from an account linked to the child’s. From 16 a student can book and pay for their own.
