A-Level Economics is marked on evaluation more than on knowledge: the top band goes to students who weigh an argument and reach a supported judgement rather than to those who explain a concept correctly. That is the skill a tutor is most useful for, and it is difficult to practise without feedback.
We also build cookie, the revision app, and every student and every tutor here gets it at no extra cost. This is what it has for A-Level Economics to use between lessons.
Knowledge, application and analysis get a student to the middle of the mark scheme. The marks above that come from evaluation: how significant is this effect, over what timescale, under what assumptions, and what would change the answer.
It is learnable, and it is the reason two students who understand the same content can be three grades apart.
A correctly labelled diagram with the shift explained in the text earns marks on its own, and a diagram drawn but not referred to earns almost none. Getting into the habit of drawing, labelling and then explaining is one of the quickest available gains.
Real examples raise a script, but only when they are used to support an argument rather than displayed. A tutor who reads the same news can help a student build a small, reusable set of examples they actually understand, which beats a long list they half-remember.
Not for the A-Level, though the quantitative element rewards it. For a competitive Economics degree, Maths is usually required and Further Maths often preferred.
Often. The TMUA is used by several economics departments including Cambridge, and Oxford’s Economics & Management and PPE now use the TARA, which replaced the TSA.
By marking real essays against the real mark scheme and rebuilding paragraphs together. Formulas help a student who is stuck, but the marks come from genuine judgement.
AQA, Edexcel (A and B), OCR and WJEC/Eduqas.
From £30 an hour, set by each tutor and shown on their profile.
Many list both. The TMUA and TARA are separate subjects on a profile, so you can see at a glance who does.
We are selective about who teaches here: we look for tutors at top universities, everybody is interviewed by us, and nobody is listed without a criminal record check on file. Lessons run in the browser with live video and a shared whiteboard.Rates start at £30 an hour, the first 15 minutes with any tutor is free, and every student gets cookie's study software at no extra cost.
