GCSE History tutors
A GCSE History tutor works one-to-one on the student’s own course, the periods and topics their school chose, and on the exam skills that cost the most marks: using sources, comparing interpretations and writing a sustained argument in the long answers. Lessons are online with a shared whiteboard for plans and timelines.

- Past papersThe boards’ own papers and mark schemes, with grade boundaries, and you can do one in cookie with a timer.
- FlashcardsCards that come back just before you would forget them, including decks other students have shared.
- NotesRevision notes people have shared, to read, download or add to your own and turn into flashcards.
- Revision planSpreads your topics and papers out over the weeks before each exam, around your lessons.
Every school studies different topics
GCSE History is chosen from a menu: each board offers several period studies, depth studies and thematic studies, and two schools on the same board may study none of the same topics. A tutor starts from which options a student is taking, which their exercise books or past papers will show.
Knowing the history is half of it
The rest is answering the question asked: judging how useful a source is, explaining why two historians disagree, and reaching a judgement in the long answers rather than describing everything that happened. These skills are taught and practised, and a tutor marks them against the board’s levels.

Common questions
Do tutors know every option on every board?
No one knows them all, so a tutor’s profile says which boards they teach, and the introduction is the time to check the topics.
Can a tutor help with source and interpretation questions?
Yes. They follow patterns each board publishes in its mark schemes, and practising them with a tutor who marks to those levels is one of the quickest gains.
How do you revise so much content?
With timelines, short retrieval quizzes and essay plans rather than rereading. A tutor can also set questions and flashcards in cookie between lessons.
How much does a GCSE History tutor cost?
From £30 an hour, set by each tutor and shown on their profile. Most tutors offer a free 15-minute intro, and their profile says so.
What happens in a lesson?
A lesson is live and one to one, in a room in your browser: video both ways, a shared whiteboard with proper maths notation, a graph plotter and screen sharing, on a laptop, tablet or phone with nothing to install. The tutor can put questions, notes and past papers on the board, and you can photograph your written work with your phone to put it there. The board is kept for 365 days, so either of you can open it again, print it or make notes, flashcards or questions from it, and the tutor writes a short report afterwards.
