Online tutoring jobs in Jamaica
You can tutor with Cookie Tutoring from Jamaica: lessons are online, you set your own rate and hours, and your earnings are paid weekly into a bank account in Jamaica. Applying starts with your CV alone, or your details typed in if you have no CV, and a person reads every one.
Apply to tutorHours that fit
Jamaica is five to six hours behind the UK, so UK after-school hours fall around your midday, and Caribbean and American students book in your afternoon and evening.
Every time on the site is shown in your own timezone, and you set the hours you are free, so you only see requests for times you offer.
Students you could teach
CSEC students across the Caribbean, SAT and AP students, and UK GCSE students around your midday.
Your profile says what you teach and at which levels, and students find you by subject and level.
What you earn
We take 20% of each lesson and you keep the rest, with no membership fee. Work it out for your rate:
You keep £32 an hour, so £160 a week.
After our 20% of each lesson and before any tax you owe. How many lessons you teach depends on the students who book you.
Who can apply
Every tutor is identity-checked, and we look for tutors at top universities, taking anyone else only on a strong application. We read every application ourselves, and the software refuses to list anybody who has not passed all of it.
- Where they are studying, or studied. We look for tutors at top universities: Oxford, Cambridge and the Russell Group in the UK, and their equivalents elsewhere. It is what we look for rather than a rule we apply blindly, so a reviewer can say yes to somebody outstanding from a university not on our list, or with no degree but a strong application, and can say no to somebody who is at one of them.
- A university email address we verify, if they have one. We send a code to it and they have to enter it, which is the quickest honest answer to "are you actually there", checked by software rather than taken on trust. It is a convenience rather than a requirement: somebody who has graduated, or whose university does not issue one, can still apply, and a person reads what they send instead.
- A CV, and their school grades and a degree if they have them. Their CV, read by a person, and real grades where they have them: which ones, what they got, and when, not "strong A-levels". Grades and a degree are not needed to apply.
- We read every application. Their answers to our questions, their grades and their video if they made one, read by us. If we want to know more, we ask for a short video call.
- Proof they are who they say they are. A photo of a passport or driving licence and a photo of their face, through Stripe. Stripe tells us the outcome and those photographs never reach us. A right-to-work check is separate, and a copy of the document from that check is kept on record, as the law requires.
Where somebody studied is a fact about them, not a claim of endorsement; Cookie Tutoring is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to any university.

Questions tutors ask
- How do I apply?
- Send your CV: that is all it takes to apply, and with no CV you can fill in your details instead. We read every CV ourselves, usually within 3 days, and if it is a fit the rest of the application opens.
- How am I paid in Jamaica?
- Weekly, into your bank account, through Stripe Global Payouts, which you set up from your earnings page once you are accepted. Earnings become payable 24 hours after a lesson, lessons are priced in pounds, and a small week’s earnings carry over to the next.
- How much can I earn?
- You set your own rate, at least £30 an hour. We take 20% of each lesson, so at £30 you keep £24, and there is no membership fee.
- Can I tutor UK students from Jamaica?
- Yes. Lessons are online, so you can teach students in the UK and anywhere else from Jamaica, at the times you offer.
- Do I need a teaching qualification?
- No. We read your CV and what you would teach, and you do not need a degree either: students part way through one are welcome, and so is anyone who knows their subject well and can teach it.
- Am I employed by Cookie Tutoring?
- Tutors here are self-employed, so tax on what you earn is yours to sort out where you live. If you live and teach outside the UK, you do not need the right to work in the UK; that check is only for tutors who teach from the UK.
