VCE tutors

A VCE tutor works one-to-one on the Victorian Certificate of Education, usually in Years 11 and 12, on the student’s own studies. Each study combines school-assessed work during the year with an end-of-year exam, and the ATAR comes from the study scores. Lessons are online, with every time shown in Australian time.

We also build cookie, the revision app, and every student and every tutor here gets it at no extra cost. This is what it has for VCE to use between lessons.

SACs and the exam

School-assessed coursework is marked during the year, and the end-of-year exams are set by the VCAA, which publishes past exams and examination reports. A tutor uses both, and the examination reports are especially useful because they say what lost marks.

Maths Methods and Specialist

Mathematical Methods and Specialist Mathematics are among the most-tutored studies, with a technology-free exam and one where a calculator is allowed, so a tutor works on both kinds of question.

Common questions

Are lessons at a time that suits Victoria?

Yes. Every time on the site is shown in your own timezone, and tutors set the hours they are free, so you choose a time that suits you.

Can a tutor use VCAA past exams?

Yes. The VCAA publishes past exams and examination reports, and working through them with a tutor is one of the most effective ways to prepare.

Can a tutor help with SACs?

With preparing and understanding the task, yes. The work itself must be the student’s own, under the school’s and the VCAA’s rules.

How much does a VCE tutor cost?

From £30 an hour, set by each tutor and shown on their profile, and priced in pounds, so a bank outside the UK may add a conversion fee. Most tutors offer a free 15-minute intro, and their profile says so.

What happens in a lesson?

A lesson is live and one to one, in a room in your browser: video both ways, a shared whiteboard with proper maths notation, a graph plotter and screen sharing, on a laptop, tablet or phone with nothing to install. The tutor can put questions, notes and past papers on the board, and you can photograph your written work with your phone to put it there. The board is kept for 365 days, so either of you can open it again, print it or make notes, flashcards or questions from it, and the tutor writes a short report afterwards.

How it works here

We are selective about who teaches here: we look for tutors at top universities, we read every application ourselves, and everybody completes an identity check before they are listed. Lessons run in the browser with live video and a shared whiteboard. Rates start at £30 an hour, most tutors offer a free 15-minute intro and their profile says so, and every student gets cookie's study software at no extra cost.
